In the Preschool 2 classroom, children are encouraged to explore a variety of activities and materials as they pursue their interests. The Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards are integrated into our curriculum and into the developmentally appropriate activities that the children engage in on a daily basis. Throughout the day, teachers capitalize on teachable moments such as discussing balance and gravity when a child’s block structure comes tumbling down. Children are also encouraged to form friendships and respectful relationships among members of the classroom community. Families are welcome to visit and participate with us to share a story, join the class on a neighborhood walk, enjoy lunch with their child, or to simply come and play.
A consistent daily routine is helpful to young children and provides predictability to their day. Times remain flexible to support children’s needs and interests. Gross motor activities are available daily, both indoors and outdoors. A well organized free play time provides children with many opportunities to pursue their interests, build skills and concepts, express creativity, and learn about their world. Group time provides children with opportunities to participate in discussions, literacy activities and music and movement experiences. Meals are provided in a family style atmosphere and rest time provides growing active children an opportunity to relax and recharge for the remainder of their busy day.
